Airplanes sit on the tarmac at Los Angeles International Airport Friday Nov. 1 2013
Airplanes sit on the tarmac at Los Angeles worldwide Airport Friday, November 1, 2013. An FAA spokesman would not provide details on the activation of the military airspace, and a Pentagon spokeswoman could not immediately comment.
Flights arriving into Los Angeles worldwide Airport are being diverted from their normal landing route and over a more congested residential area to clear a military airspace. Due to that activity, LAX will deviate from its “Over-Ocean Operations” that are typically in effect from midnight to 6:30 a.m.
Outbound flights will continue to take off to the west, over the ocean. LAX officials only said it would last until November 12.
“As a result, persons living near the airport may notice a change in aircraft flight activity and associated noise”, LAX said in a statement.
“I can imagine for the next week they’re going to fly over (for) 24 hours”, Cammie Butler said. But I know that residents of suburbs that used to experience regular house rattling passes by commercial air liners aren’t pleased when that happens as I’m sure most residents of Inglewood could tell you.
“If it’s a military thing it’s a good thing, that means they’re making it safer for us so I wouldn’t let it bother me”, he said
