The Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea at the closed meeting on Thursday has resolved the region to enter Russia as a constituent territory of the Russian Federation, reads the Crimean Parliament’s resolution, a copy thereof Ukrainian News Agency has obtained.
The decision received votes of 78 out of 86 Councillors (100 seats on the Council in all).
By this decision the Crimean Parliament turned to President Vladimir Putin of Russia and the State Duma of the Federal Assembly with a proposition to start the procedure of affiliation with Russia as a constituent territory of the Russian Federation.
“There was an annexion of Crimea by Ukraine, and namely of these sentiments and concerns we have made a decision on affiliation with the Russian Federation. I think we will be better and more comfortable there,” deputy chairman of the Crimean Council Serhii Tsekov told journalists in Simferopol.
By the same decision the Crimean Parliament moved the referendum from March 30 to 16.
Bulletins will be printed in the Russian, Ukrainian, and Crimean Tartar languages.
Tsekov thinks the Crimean Parliament’s today decision will spark indignation in Ukraine’s government, which is regarded illegitimate in Ukraine.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea at the meeting on Thursday decided to move the referendum on Crimea’s status from March 30 to 16 and made one of the questions inclusion of the region into the Russian Federation.
