A man fought his way back into a burning house to rescue his prized  possession – a crate of beer from the fridge.

Walter Serpit made sure all eight members of his family had escaped the  flames engulfing his home in Columbus, Georgia – before going back for what really  mattered.

He was able to save several cans of Bud Light without getting burned.

Mr Serpit said: “I told them to get the kids out and everything, and me  myself, I was trying to get my beer out.”

Officials believe the fire was caused by a newly installed water  heater.
