A popular 15-year-old student  has committed suicide after he reportedly faced expulsion and being placed on  the sex offenders’ register simply for streaking at a high school football  game.

Christian Adamek, from Huntsville, Alabama,  hanged himself on October 2, a week after he was arrested for running naked  across the Sparkman High football field during a game.

The teenager died two days later from his  injuries and on Wednesday, friends and family gathered at a memorial service as  they struggled to comprehend the beloved student’s death.

A video of Adamek streaking during a game  against a rival team was posted on YouTube hours after the event and students  took to Twitter to call him a ‘legend’.

‘Sparkman’s new slogan is gonna be “Welcome  to Sparkman High School, Home of Christian Adamek”,’ one student  wrote.

But school staff did not treat the situation  so lightly.

Sparkman High Principal Michael Campbell told  WHNT a day  before the suicide attempt that the teen could face major repercussions because  of his actions.

‘There’s the legal complications,’  Campbell  said. ‘Public lewdness and court consequences  outside of school with the legal  system, as well as the school  consequences that the school system has set  up.’

In Alabama, indecent exposure is linked to  the state’s sex offender laws, meaning that he could have found himself on the  sex offenders register due to the streaking.

Campbell added that that the incident was not  just a prank and needed to be treated seriously.

Sparkman High administrators even recommended  that Adamek face a hearing in the Madison County court system to  determine if  formal charges would be filed, WHNT reported.

Adamek had also been disciplined by the  school district but the details had not been made public.

The day before the suicide attempt, the  principal had confirmed that Adamek was not at school and the teenager’s sister  suggested on Twitter that Adamek faced expulsion, AL.com reported.

Campbell declined to comment on Adamek’s  death but the Madison County school district issued a statement saying it had  ‘received word that a Sparkman High School student has passed away’.

‘Our prayers and thoughts are with the family  during this time of bereavement,’ the statement read.

The messages on Twitter have now turned from  congratulatory to somber.

‘Praying for the Adamek family. Christian was  so funny and nice. He will be missed by so many,’ one girl wrote.

The family – Adamek leaves behind his mother,  Angela, and a sister and a brother – shared photos and memories online of the  fun-loving teen, who was pictured posing and grinning at the camera.

At Wednesday’s memorial service, his Boy  Scout Troop master, David Silvernail, said Adamek was a popular teenager who  always had a smile on his face.

‘There are two kinds of people in the world;  ones that brighten the room when they walk in and those that don’t,’ he  said.

‘He was one that brightened the room when he  walked in. That’s what I’ll always remember about Christian.’

His mother, Angela, thanked her son’s friends  and said they could learn from his life, AL.com reported.

‘Remember to smile, don’t be afraid to do  something goofy and remember the consequences of those actions, ask for help  when you need it, ask for help if you think your friends need it if you don’t  know what to do, be quirky, be happy, be smart,’ she said.

  1. I’m just heartbroken over this… WTH is wrong with people / “adults”? Anyone who was part of the decision to bring such harsh charges against this 15 year-old has blood on their hands! Get a grip America… NOT EVERY ACT has a vile, disgusting reason behind it. The kid was being a kid! ENOUGH ALREADY! I feel for the family and friends of this innocent kid! SMGDH!

  2. streaking is not a offence worthy of being titled sex offender, he has not violated a girl nor acted in sexual assault also sex offender refers committing sex crimes, this kid has done no such thing. this law is stupid and charge the principle with manslaughter because his actions lead the boy to end his life.

    • That’s how illogical and emotionally-charged ‘sex’ offenses have become in America. They are downright draconian because the people labeled as sex offenders are difficult to defend and it gives the scumbags in government an easy group to thump their chests against.

My neighbor’s son was in college when he made the fateful decision to walk home from a house party at 1 AM on a Saturday night, so that he wasn’t driving his car. He went to relieve himself behind a landscape area when a cop walked by. It was the landscaping at the edge of an elementary school, so the cop gave him indecent exposure on school property, and on the sex offenders list he goes. It has ruined his life. He can’t find jobs in the field he went to school for because the employers see him name on there and never even give him a chance to explain it. He lost lots of other opportunities not to mention the horror of being grouped with rapists, pedophiles, and so on.

  3. lets not forget hes 15..chances are hes a virgin.. the prospect of being put on a sex offenders list without ever having sex is insane.. and he was most likely thinking that being a registered sex offender would most likely mean hes never going to have a girlfriend ..

nudity is not a sex offence..nudists and naturalists are less likely to be pervs ..especialy rapists or molestors cause they grow up less repressed ..more interested in love and being loving then they are in trying to get into peoples pants cause they are more used to people not wearing any

just cause he streaked..a harmless childish prank is no reason to call him a sex offender or deviant

its not even worth expulsion ..detention sure maybe a 3 days suspension
but to ruin his academic career over it ..let alone his life?

are you aware of how many kids in hs go around sending cell phone pictures of the girl they were with last night to 1/2 the class? thats harmful devient behavior but never ends up with expulsion or a sex offender registration

why should streaking a harmless act that traumatizes noone cause so much trouble

i would charge the principle as well as the da with manslaughter

  4. There appear to be two kinds of Christians here: those who are tenderly susceptible to moral outrages so grave and offensive that the adults among them ( giving testimony, by example, to their God) would subject one of their children (the other kind of Christian) to cruelty of speech and hateful action.–that they would be instruments in his death. God forbid I ever set foot in Alabama.

  5. The irony? Streaking was a huge fad when all these talking heads in charge that make these absurd lwas were in high school and college. It was a right of passage and apparently back in the day when everything wasn’t a federal offense. Maybe all these sick laws should have age limits, like voting and military age requirements….this way, kids can be kids without being marked for life.
