US to open its doors to foreigners for Ebola treatment

India Today  New Delhi, October 19, 2014 | UPDATED 15:01 IST

President Barack Obama plans to allow foreign nationals suffering from deadly Ebola to receive treatment in the US, a report said.

As part of Obama’s open door policy, non-US citizens from the Ebola infected countries may be allowed on US soil to receive treatment, it said.

It was, however, not immediately known who would bear the high costs of transporting and treating non-US Ebola patients.

The plans include special waiver of laws that ban the admission of non-citizens with a communicable disease as dangerous as Ebola in the country.

The proposal is yet to be presented to the Congress even though it would require its approval, the report said citing Judicial Watch.

Judicial Watch: Benghazi Documents Point to White House on Misleading Talking Points

APRIL 29, 2014

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today that on April 18, 2014, it obtained 41 new Benghazi-relatedState Department documents. They include a newly declassified email showing then-White House Deputy Strategic Communications Adviser Ben Rhodes and other Obama administration public relations officials attempting to orchestrate a campaign to “reinforce” President Obama and to portray the Benghazi consulate terrorist attack as being “rooted in an Internet video, and not a failure of policy.”  Other documents show that State Department officials initially described the incident as an “attack” and a possible kidnap attempt.

Penalty flag? Super Bowl champs Baltimore Ravens are being PAID $130,000 to promote Obamacare in Maryland

By  David Martosko, U.s. Political Editor

The Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens  inked a sponsorship agreement in September with Maryland Health Connection, the  state’s Obamacare insurance exchange, that will pay them $130.000 during the  2013 football season to promote the Affordable Care Act.

The Maryland government announced the  partnership in September, citing the Obamacare exchange’s ‘opportunity to reach  and engage fans while making them aware of the new opportunity they have for  health coverage.’

Judicial Watch, a Washington, D.C.  organization that files hundreds of public records requests every year,  published a copy of the contract on Tuesday.

The National Football League resisted  overtures from the Obama administration, which wanted a league-wide sponsorship  deal. But the Ravens, who visited with President Obama in June to receive his  congratulations for their Super Bowl XLVII win, decided to play ball.

Tom Fitton, Judicial Watch’s president and a  Ravens fan, called it a ‘propaganda deal’ for the 3-4 team.

‘The Super Bowl champion Ravens have enough  problems this season, and  allowing their name to be linked with the Obamacare  debacle is going to  further disappoint many fans,’ Fitton told  MailOnline.

‘This shows why Obamacare is a failure, as  the government seemed more  interested in spending money on ads rather than  making it work.’

The Ravens’ media relations office did not  respond to multiple requests for comment.

But the Ravens’ contract with Maryland Health  Connection, negotiated through the Weber Shandwick public relations firm, calls  for the team to promote enrollment in Obamacare through ads on its stadium  Jumbotron and its flagship websites, and positive plugs in its fan  newsletter.

The Obamacare exchange will receive at least  two featured segments on all 17 weekly broadcasts of Ravens Report, a game-recap  show that airs on WBAL Plus-TV and Comcast SportsNet, along with a wide slate of  radio ads before and after games.

The team is also slated to deliver a two-week  ad campaign on its Facebook page, along with 5 tweets to its 382,000  followers.

Neither the Maryland government nor the  Ravens offered any specifics when the deal was announced in early  September.

But the sponsorship agreement lays out the  deal in detail, portraying the arrangement as less of a public service campaign  than a paid endorsement.

Should the Ravens reach the post-season, the  Maryland government would even have the option of extending the  contract

DoD training manual suggests Founding Fathers followed ‘extremist ideology’

 Published time: August 25, 2013 11:41

A Department of Defense training manual obtained by a conservative watchdog group pointed to the original American colonists as examples of an extremist movement, comments that have sparked fear of a broader crackdown on dissent in America.

The training manual provides information that describes, among  other things, “common themes in extremist ideologies.”

Now, if the Department of Defense has its way, historical figures  who risked their lives to free America from British colonial rule   – names like Paul Revere, Thomas Paine, Benjamin Franklin and  Samuel Adams – will be rebranded as dangerous extremists,  alongside the likes of skinheads and neo-Nazis.

The first paragraph of the section entitled ‘Extremist  Ideologies’ opens with a statement that has drawn heated  criticism: “In US history, there are many examples of  extremist ideologies and movements. The colonists who sought to  free themselves from British rule and the Confederate states who  sought to secede from the Northern states are just two  examples.”

In America’s early colonial period, many colonists served in  state militias under the direction of the Continental Army in an  effort to free the Thirteen Colonies from British rule. Indeed,  the Second Amendment of the US Constitution clearly states: “A  well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free  state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be  infringed.”

The   document, entitled Equal Opportunity and Treatment Incidents  (EOTI), was obtained on Thursday by Judicial Watch, a watchdog  group, through a Freedom of Information Act request.

The military manual defines extremism as a “term used to  describe the actions or ideologies of individuals or groups who  take a political idea to its limits, regardless of unfortunate  repercussions, and show intolerance toward all views other than  their own.”

Some would argue the military manual invokes a rather broad and  loose definition that may be applied to any number of persons and  organizations, including the Girl Scouts of America, for example,  selling cookies door-to-door.

The manual warns military personnel that “the objectives of  extremist organizations is [are] viewed as detrimental to the  good order, discipline, or mission accomplishment of the unit and  is [are], therefore, subject to appropriate disciplinary  action.”

The manual goes on to discuss “Doomsday thinking” under   “traits or behaviors that tend to represent the extremist  style.”

Extremists often predict dire or catastrophic consequences  from a situation or from a failure to follow a specific course,  and they tend to exhibit a kind of crisis-mindedness. It can be a  Communist takeover, a Nazi revival, nuclear war, earthquakes,  floods, or the wrath of God. Whatever it is, it is just around  the corner unless we follow their program and listen to their  special insight and wisdom, to which only the truly enlightened  have access.

Nowadays,” the manual continues, “instead of dressing  in sheets or publicly espousing hate messages, many extremists  will talk of individual liberties, states’ rights, and how to  make the world a better place.”

Many Americans and civil rights groups fear that in the event of  another national emergency, perhaps on the scale of a 9/11, the  US military will take over the role of ‘maintaining law and  order’ inside of American communities. These fears were increased  after US President Barack Obama signed into law on Dec. 31, 2011  the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which grants  sweeping powers to the US military.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) came out with a harsh  rebuke immediately following passage of the controversial  legislation.

President Obama’s action today is a blight on his legacy  because he will forever be known as the president who signed  indefinite detention without charge or trial into law,” said  Anthony D. Romero, ACLU executive director.

The statute is particularly dangerous because it has no  temporal or geographic limitations, and can be used by this and  future presidents to militarily detain people captured far from  any battlefield.  The ACLU will fight worldwide detention  authority wherever we can, be it in court, in Congress, or  internationally.

The signing of the NDAA nullifies the Posse Comitatus Act, which  worked to prevent the US military from taking over police  functions within local communities.

The US Congress passed a bill (on Jan. 1, 2012, known as the  National Defense Authorization Act) that repeals Posse Comitatus,  which means that we have now institutionalized and codified  martial law,” Congressman Ron Paul told a group of supporters  in June 2012, as reported by Live Leaks. “Right now the battle  against terrorism involves all of us. Everybody in this country  is a potential terrorist.

If you happen to visit a website, or attend a meeting that  contains a particular viewpoint…you can be accused of being a  terrorist and the bill says you have no right to a lawyer,”   Paul added.

In January 2012, a study funded by the Department of Homeland  Security (“Hot Spots of Terrorism and Other Crimes in the  United States, 1970 to 2008”) characterizes Americans who are   “suspicious of centralized federal authority,” and   “reverent of individual liberty” as “extreme  right-wing” terrorists.

Documents: Attorney General Eric Holder billed taxpayers for more than $4 MILLION in travel in less than 4 years

Attorney General Eric Holder spoke at the April 2011  convention of the Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, charging taxpayers  $15,452.50 for his travel

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder’s travel  expenses exceeded $4 million for 213 separate trips during President Obama’s  first term in office, according to documents obtained through the Freedom Of  Information Act.

The expenses, incurred between March 2009 and  August 2012, were all borne by taxpayers – including those covering several  personal trips. Holder typically travels on a government-owned Gulfstream V jet,  whose retail cost is more than $53.5 million. The U.S. government owns at least  five such aircraft.

Judicial Watch  released the documents Monday,  showing that the attorney general billed his agency more than $113,000 in travel  expenses for four trips he made, while in office, to speak to liberal advocacy  groups.

Holder’s very first taxpayer-funded trip was  to an April 2009 ‘US/Mexico Arms Trafficking Strategy Meeting.’

According to the speech that the DOJ prepared for him, Holder told U.S. and  Mexican law enforcement officials in Cuernavaca, Mexico that he was ‘committing  100 new ATF personnel to the Southwest border in the next 100 days to supplement  our ongoing Project Gunrunner.’

Gunrunner was a precursor to the better-known  Operation Fast and Furious. Both programs involved using ‘straw purchasers’ to  track illegal guns carried across the U.S.-Mexico border.

Holder later testified before Congress that  he had no knowledge of the tactics used in the program, and wrote in a  subsequent letter that he had ‘no recollection of knowing about Fast and Furious … Prior to  early 2011, I certainly never knew about the tactics employed in the  operation.’

Holder’s other trips during Obama’s first term in the  White House included personal jaunts to Atlantic City; Chicago; Miami;  Cleveland; Raleigh, North Carolina; Savannah and Macon, Georgia; Martha’s  Vineyard, Massachusetts; and Farmingdale, New York. Many of the  documents Judicial Watch obtained  include Holder’s personal expense reports for room service and  lodging.

And while most of the travel expenses  covered events and  meetings that fit within Holder’s position, he also  billed the Department of  Justice for travel related to commencement  speeches at several universities  whose endowments are in the billions of dollars.

Like most federal government VIPs, Holder can  take expensive private aircraft for personal travel, while only reimbursing the  government for the equivalent point-to-point coach fare. The balance, amounting  to more than $697,000, comes out of taxpayer dollars.

It’s unlikely that speaking engagements count  as personal travel, even when they serve political groups that have a stake in  ongoing Justice Department proceedings.

The National Council of La Raza, the NAACP,  the League of United Latin American Citizens, the National Urban League and Al  Sharpton’s National Action Network all have vested interests in the ongoing  immigration battles, and in voting rights cases where Holder has sided with  advocates against voter-ID laws.

The federal government covered his travel  expenses for trips to speak to all four groups. That included flights on a  Department of Defense plane for the NAACP annual meeting in 2012, a trip whose  expenses weren’t itemized in the documents Judicial Watch reviewed.

Holder also gave commencement speeches and  other addresses at the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University and  Princeton University, all wealthy Ivy League schools, and at Tulane University,  Vanderbilt University, the University of Virginia and five different law  schools.

Those expenses, totaling more than $216,000,  were billed to the government, despite universities’ common practice of  reimbursing commencement speakers for their travel and paying them  honoraria.

The DOJ did not respond to a request for  comment.

But Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton said  he hopes ‘these documents help Attorney General Holder understand the burden his  unnecessary personal travel places on American taxpayers.’

‘The notion that federal officials such as  Holder have access to a fleet of luxury jets for discounted personal travel for  “security” reasons should strike most Americans as a scam that needs to be  reformed,’ he said.

Holder's expense report from his June 28, 2012 speech to the League of United Latin American Citizens in Lake Buena Vista, Florida included $38,108 in 'business and personal' expenses

Shocking US government leaflet tells Mexican immigrants they can collect food stamp benefits without admitting they’re in the country illegally

  • Conservative legal group obtained  Agriculture Department flyer
  • ‘You need not divulge information regarding  your immigration status in seeking this benefit for your children’

A Spanish-language leaflet that the U.S.  Department of Agriculture has provided to the Mexican Embassy in Washington  advises border-crossing Mexicans that they can collect taxpayer-funded food  stamp benefits for their children without admitting that they’re illegal  immigrants.
Underlined and in  boldface type, the document tells immigrants who are unlawfully in the United  States that, ‘You need not divulge information regarding your immigration status  in seeking this benefit for your children.’
The  USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly known as food  stamps, is funded in order to prevent hunger by helping poor families maintain a  basic level of nutrition for both adults and children.

Congress spent $86.5 billion on the SNAP program in 2012, by far the largest single line-item in the USDA's $205 billion overall budget

The Agriculture Department says SNAP benefits  are only to be distributed to U.S. citizens and other legal residents. On its  website, it acknowledges an education ‘partnership’ with the Mexican government,  but insists that its aim is to help educate only ‘eligible Mexican nationals  living in the United States’ about nutrition benefits for which they might  qualify.

That education partnership is carried out  through a program called ‘Ventanillas de Salud,’ meaning ‘Windows to Health,’  implemented through 50 Mexican consulates in the U.S.

Judicial Watch obtained the Spanish language  leaflet through a Freedom of Information Act request. An attached email dates  the document to March 2009, just months after President Barack Obama took  office.

In an email, a spokesperson for the SNAP  program told The  Daily Caller, which first reported on the leaflet, that  “non-citizens who are unlawfully  present, are not, nor have they ever been, eligible to receive  Supplemental  Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

The leaflet, released late Thursday by the  conservative group Judicial Watch, will raise questions about the Obama  administration’s commitment to limiting the expenditure of taxpayer funds to  eligible Mexican nationals – meaning those with legal permission to reside in  the United States.

‘The revelation that the USDA is actively  working with the Mexican government to promote food stamps for illegal aliens  should have a direct impact on the fate of the immigration bill now being  debated in Congress,’ Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton said in a  statement.

‘These disclosures further confirm the fact  that the Obama administration cannot be trusted to protect our borders or  enforce our immigration laws. And the coordination with a foreign government to  attack the policies of an American state is contemptible.’

Fitton’s group also obtained a March 2010  USDA flyer advertising a taxpayer-funded online seminar for nonprofits serving  Hispanic communities. The teaching session, promoted as being ‘free for all  participants,’ taught activists how to get USDA funding to provide free lunches  during the summer.

The federal government’s SNAP program served about 43.6  million people in November 2010. Before the recession, the program had just 26  million enrollees. The USDA licenses food retailers like this Oregon grocery  store as SNAP program participants

And in a March 2012 communication, Judicial  Watch said, the USDA asked the Mexican Embassy to approve a letter addressed to  that country’s 50 consulates. That letter encouraged staff at those Mexican  diplomatic missions to learn in another webinar how to encourage more of ‘the  needy families that the consulates serve’ to enroll in the SNAP  program.

Judicial Watch said Thursday that the 2012  document did not discriminate between legal US residents and illegal  immigrants.

In August, Agriculture Under Secretary Kevin  Concannon rolled out a new range of anti-fraud programs aimed at preventing food  stamp funds from going to ineligible recipients.

‘USDA has a zero tolerance policy for SNAP  fraud,’ Concannon said when announcing new measures to clamp down on abuse of  the program that he promised would ‘help us hold bad actors even more  accountable than in the past and discourage them from abusing the public’s  trust.’

The agency’s press release, however, made no  mention of efforts intended to deny SNAP benefits to illegal  immigrants.

Last year Alabama Republican Senator Jeff  Sessions complained in writing to USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack that, ‘It defies  rational thinking for the United States – now dangerously $16 trillion in debt –  to partner with foreign governments to help us place more foreign nationals on  American welfare.’

An estimated 11 million illegal immigrants  are living in the United States. President Obama and a bipartisan group of eight  U.S. Senators are gathering support for comprehensive immigration reform   legislation that would put most of them on a path to legal residence and,  conservatives allege, both amnesty and citizenship.
