‘War may begin before US election’ Vladimir Putin’s special advisor warns | Daily Star

Sergei Markov, special advisor to Russian head honcho Vladimir Putin, made the chilling prediction as relations between the two military superpowers threaten to reach crisis point.

Fears of all out war were stoked further today as US Marine Corps revealed plans to camp out on Russia’s doorstep.

With both nations mobilising troops, warships and fighter jets across the globe, Markov told Daily Beast he believes military posturing could soon spill over into war.

He said: “These are the most serious tensions between Moscow and Washington in decades… the war might begin even before the November elections in the US.”

“I personally plan to stock 200 cans of pork to be ready for a potential war crisis and I advise everybody to do the same.”

A political scientist and journalist, Markov is thought to have a cosy relationship with senior Kremlin figures.

He works as a vice rector at the Plekhanov Russian University and was the Kremlin’s political advisor during Ukraine’s Orange Revolution of 2004 and 2005.

When civil war erupted again in Ukraine in 2012 he told Daily Beast that “some Russian forces might get involved” to help Putin-backed rebels – risking a “full-scale, continental war”.
