Parliament Speaker/acting President Oleksandr Turchynov has demanded that the self-proclaimed Crimean authorities free all hostages and stop provoking Ukrainian troops by 21:00 on Wednesday, the acting president’s representative office announced in a statement.
“If all provocations against Ukrainian troops are not stopped and Admiral Haiduk and all other hostages – both military and civilian – are not released by 21:00, the authorities will take adequate measures, including measures of technical and technological nature,” Turchynov said.
According to him, the Russian military is cynically refusing to hold talks on ending the provocations and freeing the hostages, citing armed groups and decisions of the self-proclaimed government of the Crimea.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Ministry of Defense has announced that unidentified people have abducted the commander of the Ukrainian Naval Forces, Serhii Haiduk.
Earlier, a number of activists were abducted in the Crimea, including Parliamentary Deputy Anatolii Hrytsenko’s son Oleksii and two other Automaidan activists.
Jan Tombinski, the head of the European Union’s Delegation to Ukraine, has claimed that the cases of enforced disappearances put Crimea under the self-proclaimed authorities at the level of some of the world’s most dangerous regions.
