Avakov Accusing Russia Of Military Invasion In Crimea (09:41, Friday, February 28, 2014)

Interior Affairs Minister Arsen Avakov accuses Russia of military invasion in Crimea, he wrote in Facebook.

“I may describe the situation [in Crimea] as invasion and occupation. In violation of all international agreements and treaties. That is a direct provocation of bloodshed on the territory of Crimea,” Avakov said.

He said the Belbek airport in Sevastopol has been blocked by militarized units of the Russian Black Sea fleet.

“There are military men and border guards of Ukraine inside of the airport’s building. Outside of it, there are military men wearing camouflage and holding weapons. [Their uniform bears] no identification signs. The airport does not function. The Ministry of Interior Affairs checkpoints are along the perimeter of the airport. No armed conflict has been taken place,” Avakov said.

In turn, the minister said that at about midnight, the Simferopol International Airport accepted an airplane with about 100 persons in casual wear, who called themselves a Cossack sotnia (unit) and having climbed over barriers entered the airport open-air territory.

“Interior troopers and militiamen pushed them back to the airport’s building and then outside the airport’s territory. No weapon was used. The Cossacks left the territory of the airport at about 1:00 a.m., got onto trucks and went away,” Avakov said.

he also said that at about 1:30 a.m., several trucks brought 119 military men in camouflage with automatic arms, who entered the building of the airport and stayed in the premise of the restaurant.

“They do not conceal their origination from the Russian Armed Forces,” Avakov said.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on February 27, Unknown persons with weapons have seized the building of the Supreme Council (the Parliament) on Karla Marksa Street and the building of the Council of Ministers (the Government) on Kirova Avenue in Simferopol (the Autonomous Republic of Crimea).
